Tooth growth

When your baby starts teething, here are some recommendations for relieving the pain:

  • Gently rub baby’s gums with your finger or the back of a small cold spoon.
  • If the pain persists, your dentist, pharmacist or doctor may recommend an over-the-counter medication to ease the pain.

What to avoid:

  • Rubbing baby’s gums with pain medication, because he or she could swallow it.
  • Giving them teething crackers, because they may contain added or hidden sugars.

IMPORTANT:

Never overlook or downplay a fever. Teething DOES NOT make babies sick or feverish. If you notice any changes in your baby’s temperature, consult your doctor immediately.

Your baby’s first set of teeth should all be in by the age of two or three. The first set includes 20 teeth.
